Training Rides

Please note that the following rides are organised by cyclists themselves and not by the Club. Cyclists ride at their own risk.

Saturdays, Sundays & daily during school holidays
These popular rides known as the Coffee Grind leave from Hot Pipi's Cafe on the Esplanade, Mooloolaba, each Saturday and Sunday at 6am in Summer and 6.30am in Winter.

The 50km route typically goes through Caloundra, Golden Beach and Pelican Waters before finishing up at Hot Pipis Mooloolaba for coffee. The pace is fairly fast especially when the riders can smell the coffee!

On Sundays, the route is often the same, but may change to go up the range to Montville via Palmwoods, or through Mooloolah and Eudlo, or along the coast to Coolum and Noosa.

Mondays and Fridays
Riders tend to follow the coffee grind route, stopping for a leisurely coffee at La Promenade, Caloundra, before returning to Mooloolaba. Ride leaves same time as above ride on Mondays and Fridays (though often occur on other weekdays as well) from Hot Pipi's Cafe on the Esplanade at Mooloolaba. Please note that this ride is suspended during school holidays, with the above Hot Pipi's ride taking it's place.

Mondays to Fridays
Caloundra riders leave from the Spin City Caloundra shop at 6am Monday to Friday and finish with coffee and raisin toast at La Promendade Coffee Shop at Bulcock Beach. For further information, contact Mick Jones at Spin City Caloundra.

Mondays to Fridays
These rides commence at 5.30am from Spin City, Brisbane Road, Mooloolaba. They promise 50-60km of pure pain! For further information, contact Spin City.

Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays

These training rides leave from Kawana Big W carpark at 7.00am. The pace is a little more relaxed than the above rides and includes older riders though cyclists of any age are welcome.

Monday usually takes in a 60km ride to Caloundra and Landsborough, stopping there for a coffee before returning to Kawana. Wednesdays and Fridays follow the Caloundra, Golden Beach route of about 50km.

Tuesdays and Thursdays

A group of triathletes leave Alexandra Headland Surf Lifesaving Club on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5.00 am. The pace is fairly fast and all are welcome.

Wednesdays

This is a great ride for beginners and those after a comfortable ride. Led by Dave Wighton, the ride leaves at 5.45am from his home at 55 Mudjimba Esplanade, Mudjimba. The riders sit on 25-30 km/h and head north to Coolum and return or to Twin Waters. For further information, contact Dave on 5450 6191

Other Training Rides

Your local bike shop can generally give you further details about training rides in your area. Otherwise, feel free to post a message on the notice board with details of other training rides that you know of.

Saturdays

The Girls Grind leaves from the Loo With The View at 6.00am on Saturdays. The ride course is essentially the same as the Coffee Grind and is about 55km in total; averaging 27-30 km/h. We cycle no more than two abreast and rotate leaders every few minutes. There are 2 regrouping points if needed: at La Prom and at the top of Currimundi.
